Zollie "Bill" Parker Denton, Jr., died July 4, 2014. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Zollie P. Denton, Sr. and Leora Smock Denton. He was born July 29, 1926 in Curdsville, KY and was a graduate of West Louisville High School and served in the US Marines in WWII. He retired from Green Coal Company after 38 years as Maintenance Supervisor. Bill was a member of Eaton Memorial Baptist Church since 1949, serving as Deacon and was a member of Gideons International for approximately 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Edwin "Pete" Denton and four sisters, Cora Sturgeon, Elizabeth Payne, Dorothy Leathers and Christine Young.
Bill is survived by his wife, Bette Ranson Denton whom he married in 1948 and three children: Pamela Joy Crabtree (Jerry), Owensboro; Jan Parker Casale (Tony), New York City; and Marcus Steven Denton, Memphis. Grandchildren: Tiffany Whitt; Jerry Wayne Crabtree, Jr.; Sherry Rickard; Tracy Bowles; Jennifer Anne Casale; Elizabeth Miller Casale; Allison Rose Casale; Delaney Catherine Denton; Drewry Parker Denton; 13 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. He also has several nephews and nieces: Betty Dausman, Tommy Denton, Larry Denton, Ronnie Denton, Greg Denton; Joann Clary; Judy Hastie; and Shirley Cheatham.
Bill enjoyed his family, friends and was a UK Wildcat Fan since 1948.
The family requests that any remembrances be sent to the Gideons for distribution of Bibles or to the Eaton Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund.
Visitation will be 1-6 PM Sunday and after 1 PM Monday at Glenn Funeral Home. Dr. Dennis McFadden will conduct services at 2 PM Monday in the Glenn Chapel with burial following in the Elmwood Cemetery.
