Zella Mae Quinn

Mrs. Zella Mae (Burns) Quinn, 68, passed away at Owensboro Medical Health System in the Transitional Care Unit on Saturday, September 29, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer. Zella was born to Earl and Wilda Burns on December 11, 1938 in Daviess Co., Ky. She worked a few years at the Cigar Factory rolling cigars after which she was employed for 18 years at Parkview Rest Home as a nursing assistant and medication aid. She relocated to Sturgis, Ky. and worked at Union County Hospital as a dietician. She spent the last 20 plus years of her life as a caregiver to several people in Sturgis, most recently Sondra Kay Holeman, whom she dearly loved as she did all her patients.

She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by five brothers, Homer Lee Burns, Herman Burns, Silas Burns, Emmett Burns, and Martin Burns, and one sister, Mary Grace Burns. In addition, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Darrick Ray Lindsey, 82nd Airborne, who served in the Haitian Conflict.

She is survived by her two sons, Ronald C. Lindsey and wife Susan and Edward E. Henry, Jr., all of Owensboro, four brothers, William, Roger Dale, Tommy, and Beverly Burns, and a sister, Anita Sorrells, all of Owensboro. She is also survived by one grandson, four granddaughters, several great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to her granddaughters, Margie Baylis and Kimberly Merwine for their help and support. Also, thanks to the staff at the Mitchell Cancer Center, Dr. Gary Wahl and staff, Dr. Ravi, and the wonderful staff of Owensboro Medical Health System Transitional Care. Additional thanks to Reta and Sam at Hospice for their compassionate care and Jennifer Bartlett at Garden Grace Apartments for her assistance.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 1, at the Glenn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sharon Murray officiating with burial following in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-6:00 P.M. Sunday and after 9:00 A.M. Monday at the funeral home.
