Yvonne Wadley Slaughter, 82, of Owensboro, was born on November 7, 1942, in Hawthorne, California, to the late Mearl and Annette King Wadley. She passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, following an extended period of health decline.
Along with her parents, Yvonne was also predeceased by her husband of 60 years, David Stuart Slaughter.
She is survived by her daughter, Tina Slaughter Heath (Tim) of Lexington, KY; and a son, Rev. Dr. Mark Slaughter (Jody) of Burnsville, Minnesota. She dearly loved her five grandchildren: Dustin Pugel (Shelly), Josh Pugel (Hayley), Hannah Pugel (Claudio), Wesley Slaughter (Sarah), and Mary Katherine Slaughter (Wade); along with her great-grandsons, Beckett and Wendell Pugel. She is also survived by three siblings, Bruce Wadley (Diane), Phyllis Buck (Wayne), and Mary Conrad (Paul).
Yvonne was a proud “preacher’s kid” who fully embraced her role in church life. She was a lifelong member of the choir, a devoted Sunday school teacher, and a camp counselor. When she wasn’t singing, she was humming. Yvonne was known for her joyful spirit and her love of music. She was the life of the party and especially lit up when good food and laughter were shared around the table.
Throughout her career, Yvonne worked in various clerical roles, but she found special joy in her final position as a bus monitor for Daviess County Schools, where she formed meaningful connections with children.
A celebration of her life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory on July 26, 2025. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until time of the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions be made to the First Baptist Church Sanctuary Choir or Hospice of Western Kentucky.
Yvonne’s legacy of faith, music, and humor will live on in all who loved her.
