Yoshio Nishimori (1937-2024): A Life of Service, Love, and Family.
On September 16, 2024, our beloved Yoshio Nishimori, a shining example of courage and devotion, passed into eternal rest at the age of 87. Born on April 21, 1937, in Paauhau, Hawaii, to Hisashige and Kimiyo Itsuno Nishimori, Yoshio's life was a testament to resilience, perseverance, and the unwavering commitment to those he loved.
As one of nine children, Yoshio's early years were shaped by the beauty of Hawaii and ocean waters. His determination and strong work ethic propelled him to excel in every endeavor. In 1956, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, embarking on a 21-year journey of service to his country. As a proud Vietnam veteran, Yoshio served with distinction in Germany, Vietnam, Iceland, and Alaska, retiring with the honorary rank of Master Sergeant with a Bronze Star.
Beyond his impressive military career, Yoshio's greatest joy was his family. In 1961, he married the love of his life, Marlene Museler, and together they shared a life of adventure, love, and laughter. As if it was great providence, his path crossed with his lifelong friend and brother-in-law Jim Day (Hilde Museler). Yoshio and Marlene's 64-year union was blessed with two sons, Markus and Frank, and priceless cherished memories. Yoshio's devotion to his family was unwavering, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
In Owensboro, Yoshio found a sense of community. As a devoted member of First General Baptist Church, he nurtured his faith and shared his gifts with others. The gentle art of gardening and nurturing of Koi fish brought him peace. His love for the ocean inspired unforgettable family vacations to Hawaii and cruises with loved ones.
Yoshio's life extends far beyond his remarkable accomplishments. It is woven into the lives of those he touched: his loving wife, Marlene; sons, Markus (Cassandra) and Frank (Marianne); grandchildren, Ryon, Alexander (Stephanie), Emily (Matthew), Andrew (Zoe), and Mary Grace (fiance Mason Bone); great-grandchildren, Yoshio James and Francis Edward; nephews Claud (Leah) Day, and Michael Day, and his cherished sisters, Florence Higa, Sonja Gumbs (Teddy), and Jane Miyasaki (Warren).
As we mourn the loss of this extraordinary man, we celebrate his life, service, and unwavering commitment to family. Yoshio's memory will be forever etched in our minds and his smile in our hearts.
A memorial service will be held at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at 10:00 am. Visitation is Friday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm and Saturday after 9:00 am at the funeral home. We gather to honor Yoshio's remarkable life and to support his family and friends.
