Wm. Gerald "Jerry" Hayden, Jr., 62, of Calhoun passed away May 18, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family while under the care of Hospice Baptist Health. He was born April 15, 1954, in Daviess County to the late Wm. Gerald Hayden, Sr. and Mary Rose Clark Hayden. Jerry was a 1972 graduate of Owensboro Catholic High School and of DeVry University in Columbus, OH. He started his work career at his dad's Gulf Station on 4th and Wing Avenue at the age of 12. Jerry retired from Texas Gas after 33 years, and was a longtime member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Calhoun where he was actively involved in many ministries. He was an avid bow hunter, cyclist, and fisherman. He coached his children's ball teams for many years and never shied away from a challenge, even building his own home. Jerry loved to dance and was always the first on the floor and the last to leave. He had an inspiring love of life and he never met a stranger.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Sherri Smith Hayden; his children, Brandy (Ricky) Harris of Versailles, Christy Hayden of Calhoun, and Kevin (Hilary) Hayden of Owensboro; grandchildren, Brooklyn, Jayden and Madelyn Harris of Versailles and Cruz Hayden of Owensboro; siblings, Carol (Tom) Payne, Joan (Martin) Hayden, Bob (Tammy) Hayden, Patty (Denny) Ward, George (Belinda) Hayden, Becky (John) Sowders, and Jack (Nikki) Hayden; 19 nephews, 12 nieces, 11 great-nephews and 9 great-nieces.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Calhoun. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday with prayers at 7:30 p.m. at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and after 9 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
