Winston E. Cummins, 92, of Kindred Healthcare-Hillcrest, Owensboro, passed away on December 25, 2012. He was born on October 5, 1920 in Paragould, AR, the youngest of nine children born to William A. and Mary E. Cummins. He served in the Army in World War II from 1942-1945, most of which he was stationed in the South Pacific. He received a Good Conduct Medal, Phillipines Liberation Ribbon, a Bronze Star, three Bronze Services Stars, and an AP Service Ribbon.
He spent most of his life working in quality control at various companies; General Motors in Flint, MI, RCA in Memphis TN, and 12 years at the York Division of Borg-Warner Corp. in Madisonville, where he retired in 1986. He was a member of Hall Street Baptist Church in Owensboro.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lucille Cummins, a daughter, June Dianne (Daniel) York of Round Lake Beach, IL, a son, Winston E. "Benny" (Patricia) Cummins, Jr. of Memphis, TN, a step-daughter, Patricia Grooms of Owensboro, 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews who knew him as "Uncle Toby".
Among his past-times, he liked to visit friends at Hardee's in the mornings, read the daily paper, and watch "Wheel of Fortune", and baseball on TV. His family would like to thank Janice Barnett at U.S. Bank, the employees at Hardee's and Grandy's on Frederica St., John Blair; Don Daniel; Phil Conyers; friends at Park-Regency Apartment; Bill and Christine Ervin; Mr. J. T. Taylor; and the staff at Hillcrest for their many kindnesses.
Services will be 12 Noon Friday, December 28, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with entombment following in Owensboro Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 3:00-6:00 P.M. Thursday and after 10:00 A.M. Friday at the funeral home.
