Winford Jewel "Bubby" Dukes, Sr. 83, of Owensboro passed away on June 24, 2012 at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born in Muhlenburg County to the late Samuel A. and Corrina (Weatherford) Dukes.
Bubby graduated from Greenville High School and attended Madisonville Community Trade School. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was proud of the fact that he was present at the signing of the Armistice on July 26, 1953 which ended the war. Bubby was the recipient of several awards and commendations including two Bronze Stars. He was a member of the local VFW Post # 696 and AmVets Post #75.
Bubby was the owner and operator of Home Insulation Co. for many years. He attended Brushy Fork Baptist Church. Bubby enjoyed fishing, auto racing, gardening and U.K. Basketball.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Rev. Denzel Dukes.
He is survived by a daughter, Patricia Bullington (John) of Chandler, IN; sons, Winford J. Dukes, Jr. (Marilet) of Hawaii, Richard A. Dukes of Owensboro and Mike Dukes (Ellen) of Henderson; nine grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; companion, Nancy Coppage and her family; three nephews and one niece.
The funeral service will be held at 12 Noon on Thursday, June 28 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Bro. Jason Mayfield will officiate. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Thursday after 10:00 am at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the "Parking Lot Fund" at Brushy Fork Baptist Church.
