William Wright Winstead

William Wright "Buddy" Winstead, Sr. of Livia, passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer on Thursday, December 6, 2007, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born in Chicago, IL on February 14, 1942, to the late Fred and Mary Hazel Winstead. He proudly served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a Kentucky Colonel and retired from Peabody Sinclair Surface Mines in 1987, where he was fondly called "Whiskers", and was a member of the Carpenters Union Local # 549. He loved fishing, gardening, woodworking and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by a son, William Wright Winstead, Jr. in April 2004.

Survivors include his loving wife of 30 years, Brenda J. Winstead; his daughter, Cindy and Wesley Wallace and their children; Jenny, Billy, Maggie, Chris, Matthew, Jonathon and Molly Wallace, all of Rockport, KY; his son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Cathy Kirby and their children; Adam and Nathan Kirby, all of Owensboro; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Jay Wilder of Booneville, IN and their children; Brandon and Shelia Payne of Evansville, IN, Dusty Kirby of Bowling Green, Jaylyn Payne of Evansville, IN, Joshua and Jeremy Wilder of Booneville, IN; a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Jennifer Kirby and their children; Courtney Kirby and Cody and Kali Newton, all of Owensboro; a daughter-in-law, Jackie Winstead and children; Mariah and Mason Winstead, all of Owensboro; thirteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Don Winstead of Louisville, Charles and Rosie Winstead of Owensboro; three sisters, Daisy Wilkerson of Hartford, Betty Gibson of Central City, and Barbara Hayden of Owensboro.

Services will be 2:00 PM Monday, at Glenn Funeral Home, conducted by Bro. Doug Grant, with burial in Glenville Cemetery. Visitation will be 1:00 until 6:00 PM Sunday and after 10:00 AM Monday at the funeral home.
