William Patrick Welsh, Jr., 82, of Owensboro passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at the Owensboro Medical Health System. Born in Daviess County on July 7, 1926, he was the son of the late William Patrick and Pearl Fulkerson Welsh; was retired from the Owensboro Fire Department where he served for 32 years retiring in 1985; and was a member of the Hall Street Baptist Church. Mr. Welsh enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf, and watching UK basketball. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Matt Welsh and a brother, James Welsh.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Marjorie Nell Horn Welsh; sons, Master Chief Petty Officer (USN, Ret) James A. "Jim" (and Marlene) Welsh of Poquoson, VA, Sergeant First Class (USA, Ret) William E. "Eddie" (and Vickie) Welsh of Hudsonville, KY, and Robert P. (and Karen) Welsh, Arthur R. "Ray" Welsh, and Joseph W. (and Rubene) Welsh all of Owensboro; grandchildren, Jimmy Welsh, Michael Welsh, Alicia Welsh, Kristy Nance, Lindsey Abney, Lexi Amos, Kelly Rednour, Joe Welsh, Lacie McLaughlin, Danielle Welsh, and Amanda Welsh; 7 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Janice (and Tom) Foster of Owensboro.
Services are 10 a.m. Monday, March 23, 2009 at Glenn Funeral Home followed by burial in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, 2009 and after 9 a.m. on Monday.
