William W.(Willie) Wells Jr., 75, of Thompson Drive, Owensboro, went to be with our Lord after a long illness on Tuesday, March 08, 2005 at Leisure Years Nursing Home. He was born March 3, 1930 to the late William W. and Bertha Neel Wells, Sr. in Daviess County. He was a member of Hall Street Baptist Church, retired from OMU and served in the Army 526 Armored Infantry Battallion - School Troops (Co. "A"), Fort Knox, KY. He also served in the National Guard. He was a graduate of Owensboro High School in 1948, where he played basketball and football. He was a member of the Evansville Musicians Association in Evansville, IN, was a very giving and loving person who enjoyed children, playing and coaching sports. He coached basketball at SS Joseph and Paul and football at Blessed Mother. He also enjoyed playing and teaching music.
He was preceded in death by three sisters; Ophelia Mattingly, Louise Gray and Bobbie Jean Owen.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce (Trodglen) Wells of Owensboro; two sons, William M. (Marty) Wells, and William A. (Bill) Wells and his wife, Cindy, all of Owensboro; one daughter, Regina Wells of Oklahoma City, OK; two sisters, Lola Pike and Alberta Rice, both of Curdsville; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. Also Wanda Girten and her family was important to him.
Services and burial will be private. Glenn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
