William "Bill" Waldie

William "Bill" James Waldie, 87, of Lewisport passed away Thursday, August 31 at Heartland Villa in Lewisport. Mr. Waldie was born January 29, 1930 in Point Pleasant, W. Virginia to the late Thomas and Bonnie Mayes Waldie. After high school, Bill served in the U.S. Navy from 1947 to 1956. He then started his career at Kaiser Aluminum in Ravenswood, W. Virginia. In 1965 he joined Harvey Aluminum in Lewisport, which later became Martin-Marietta and Commonwealth Aluminum. Bill became Vice President of Commonwealth and retired in 1989. He came out of retirement in 1992 to work briefly in Ravenswood, W. Virginia where he had started his career, retiring the second time in 1993. Bill enjoyed spending the winter months in Bradenton, Florida and the summer months in Santa Claus, Indiana. He loved playing golf, telling good stories, and a good cigar. Bill was a long-time member of the Owensboro Country Club, a Kentucky Colonel and served on several boards including Junior Achievement, Hancock Bank and Trust, Hancock Co. Industrial Foundation, Brescia University, and the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 67 years, Wanda Lee Waldie; two sons, Scott Waldie (Sherrie Girten) of Lewisport and Craig Waldie (Gaye) of Hawesville; two grandchildren, Adam Waldie of Lexington and Kevin Waldie of Lewisport; brother, Donald Waldie (Margaret) of Point Pleasant, W. Virginia.

A private graveside service with military honors will be held at Lewisport Cemetery.
