William Halbert Tucker

April 26, 1924 — November 29, 2007

William Halbert Tucker, 83, of Owensboro, passed away Thursday, November 29, 2007. Born April 26, 1924 in Bremen, KY, he was the son of the late Henry Franklin and Althea Page Tucker; was retired from Lanham Brothers General Contractors; and was a member of First Baptist Church and the Inspiration Sunday School Class. Mr. Tucker enlisted in the Army along with his brothers during World War II and served with the 83rd Infantry Division in the European Theater receiving the Bronze Star for heroic devotion to duty in the face of overwhelming odds for holding his position for 6 hours against enemy small arms and tank fire to prevent their advance. His service to country was truly selfless and brave. He was a devoted husband and father and was always a joy to be with and uplifting no matter what the circumstance. Among his hobbies were working with stained glass and gardening. Mr. Tucker was preceded in death by brothers, Jesse Tucker and Leonard Tucker; a sister, Lorene Brownfield; and a half-brother, Elvis Tucker.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Cora Mae Foster Tucker; a son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and DeAnn Tucker of Owensboro; grandsons, Bradley Tucker and Owen Tucker; a sister, Pearl C. Lambert of Hawesville; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are 12 Noon Monday, December 3, 2007 at Glenn Funeral Home with Dr. Paul Strahan officiating followed by burial in Elmwood Cemetery where military honors will be provided by VFW Post 696. Visitation will be 12:30 to 4 P.M. Sunday and after 10:30 A.M. on Monday.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Alzheimers Association.
