William E. Rummage, 79, died Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at his residence in Owensboro.
He was preceded in death by his father, Earl D. Rummage; his mother, Mary Coots Rummage; and a brother, Edward Rummage. Mr. Rummage was a native of Daviess County and graduated from Daviess County High School in 1942. He served in the 1st U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in World War II and participated in five campaigns in the European Theater of operations. He attended City College of New York and graduated from the University of Louisville Law School in 1952. He was a member of the Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity. He retired from the practice of law in March 2000. Mr. Rummage was president of the younger Lawyers Conference from 19571958 and was a member of the Board of Governors of the Kentucky State Bar 19631974. He was president of the Kentucky Bar Association 19721973 and was a delegate to the American Bar Association 1976-1979. He was a member of the Daviess County Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Kentucky Academy of Trial Attorneys, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, and the American Judicature Society. Mr. Rummage was a member of the Daviess County Lions Club. He was a member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church. In May of this year, he was awarded the Joseph Hamilton Daveiss Award for Outstanding Public Service by the Daviess County Bar Association.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lucile Shafer Rummage; two sons, William E. Rummage, Jr. of Evansville, Indiana and Robert F. Rummage of Elmhurst, Illinois; five grandchildren; three sisters, Louise Condon, Joann McCulley, and Margaret Moore; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Services are at 2:00 P.M. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home, where visitation will be from 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday and from noon until 2:00 P.M. Friday. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Memorial Fund of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church or Hospice and Palliative Care.
