William Joseph "Bill" Rubsam 59, passed away at the Owensboro Center on Monday, June 2, 2014. He was born on May 9, 1955 in Newton, Illinois to James E. and Annette R. Rubsam. Bill lived in Newton, Il. through the 8th grade at St. Thomas school. He moved to Owensboro, Ky. in 1969 with his parents and six brothers and sisters. Bill graduated from Daviess County High School in 1974, where he belonged to the cross country team. He never won a race but ran second many times.
Bill enjoyed cars and fast vehicles, and rode a motorcycle. He was a mechanic for cars and farm machinery at Philpot Crabtree Implements. Bill was involved in a head on collision on Rt. 231 near Masonville, Ky. in October of 1984. He suffered a closed head injury and nearly died from his injuries. Bill has been in various rehabs including Frazier's in Louisville, Cedar Brook in Gallatin, Tn., and Roosevelt Center in Atlanta. He had short term memory but learned to walk again, eat regular food, and remembered his parents, siblings, and many others.
Survivors include his parents, James E. and Annette R. Rubsam; sisters, Jeanne (Terry) McGinnis of Evansville, Kathleen (Monty) Peek of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, Ann (Dennis) Horn of Shelbyville, Rosemarie (Donnie) Skaggs of Mt. Juliet, TN; brothers, Michael Rubsam of White House, TN. and Joseph Rubsam of Sandy Hook, KY. Several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held 10AM at Immaculate Catholic Church on Friday June 6, 2014. Visitation will be 3-8PM Thursday and after 8:30AM Friday at the Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory . Prayers will be at 7:30 PM Thursday at the Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery.
