William H. Roby, 88, of Owensboro, died Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at the Carmel Home. He was born January 27, 1918 to the late Daniel and Anna Leah Mattingly Roby in Daviess County. He owned and operated the King Charles Inn for 33 years. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, belonged to TPA and enjoyed playing golf and oil painting.
He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Gray Roby on June 25, 2002, a grandson, Kevin Gray Roby on September 24, 1972, and three brothers, Richard, Leon and Snookie Roby.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Shirley; his daughter, Leah Harrington and her husband, Bob of Owensboro; a daughter-in-law, Judy Roby of Owensboro; grandchildren, Tina Edge and her husband, Michael, Mandy Roberts and her husband, Matt, Kris Roby and his wife, Sally, Robin and Todd Harrington; 8 great-grandchildren; a brother, Sam Roby and his wife, Gena of Owensboro.
Services will be 1:00 PM Saturday at St. Pius Catholic Church with burial in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 until 8:00 PM Friday with prayers said at 6:00 P.M. and after 10 A.M. on Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carmel Home, 2501 Old Hartford Road, Owensboro, KY 42303 or to the Passionist Nuns Monastery, 8564 Crisp Rd., Whitesville, KY 42378.
