William "Bill" Gibbs Paschal joined our Lord on July 2, 2010. He was surrounded by the Chaplain and the loving and caring staff of Western Kentucky Veterans Center. Formerly of Owensboro this had been William's home for the last several years.
He was born to William Edward and Erma Lenore Gibbs Paschal on April 13, 1915, in Birmingham, Alabama.
William accepted Jesus as his Savior at the age of 19 during a revival service. He was a long time member of Third Baptist Church and he also taught Sunday School. As a young person he was very much involved with Scouting. He obtained the rank of Eagle, was one of the first Cub Scout Leaders, and helped lead a Boy Scout Troop at Eaton Memorial Baptist Church. William served in the United States Army for 2 years and was stationed at Fort McClellan, Alabama. After completing his education at Western State Teacher's College he taught for several years and later became Director of Pupil Personnel for the Owensboro School System. After retirement from the school system he worked for several years at Edd's Hardware. William was also active with the Good Fellows and the Civitan Club. He married, Winifred Ruth Grimes on August 10, 1940 in Bowling Green, Kentucky and they were married for 63 years. He enjoyed both stamp and coin collecting but most of all
he enjoyed being with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
William was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his sisters, Erma Shields, Mary Helen Smith and Sarah Wermuth.
He is survived by his daughters, Rebecca Dixon and her husband John, and Patricia Ford and her husband Gerald; grandchildren, Chris Dixon and his wife Betsy, Amy Dixon, Mark Ford and his wife Heather, Kevin Ford and his wife Kelly, and Beth Ford Bozarth and her husband Chris; great-grandchildren, Easton Ford, Avery Ford, Logan Dixon, Hudson Ford, Bryce Bozarth and Baby Girl Bozarth; a brother, James Paschal and his wife Edna; and a sister, Rosa Parker
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with the Rev. Sam Beeny, Chaplain at Western Kentucky Veterans Center, officiating. Visitation will be from noon until time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
The family would appreciate so much that any expressions of sympathy be made to either the Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association or to the Western Kentucky Veterans Center. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
