William R. "Bill" O'Flynn, 77, of Philpot, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2018 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born March 20, 1941 in Daviess County to the late Todd and Ona Ruth Vickers O'Flynn. He retired from General Electric in Motors Division and was a U. S. Army veteran of the Viet Nam War and also served in the Army Reserves. Bill attended both the Mt. Zion Cumberland Presbyterian Church and South Hampton Baptist Church. He and his wife were members of Golden Partners and enjoyed going on the many trips they sponsored. He was a 1959 graduate of Daviess County High School and a graduate of Western Kentucky University where he received his engineering degree. Bill had played football in high School and in college and coached junior high school football, loved watching and feeding birds, and was an animal lover, especially loving his cats, Molly and Idgie. He frequently volunteered at the Western Kentucky Botanical Gardens and enjoyed running and bicycling.
Bill was also preceded in death by a previous wife, Linda Mae O'Flynn on September 23, 2010, his daughter, Julia Diane O'Flynn on January 23, 1988, a sister, Lana D. O'Flynn on August 24, 1971, and a brother, Robert T. "Toddy" O'Flynn on June 22, 2012.
Surviving are his wife of four years, Dorothy Gilmore Mardis O'Flynn, two step-daughters, Dawna Hoesli (Neil) Powell of Indianapolis and Deborah (Bill) Boom of Philpot, two step-sons, James Michael (Vicki) Hoesli of Owensboro and Christopher Paul Hoesli, seven stepgrandchildren, Kyle Powell, Kasey Baughn, Natalie (Will) Simpson, Tara (Parker) Timmons, Rachel (Chris) Smith, Christopher Michael Oliver, and Jonathan Bradley Oliver, several step great grandchildren, two sisters, Betty O'Flynn McDaniel of Owensboro and Kaye O'Flynn (David) Ray of Florence, Alabama, an aunt, Merle Vickers Eaton of Owensboro, a brother-in-law, William Michael (Shirley) Gilmore of Philpot, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, April 28, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with full military honors. Visitation will be from 3:00-8:00 P.M. Friday and after 9:00 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
