William (Bill) Richard Murphy, son of Michael Richard and Mary Frances Riney Murphy, a native of Owensboro, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, June 5, at the age of 86. Bill attended Saint Joseph High School and Brescia College in Owensboro, Kentucky. He was a World War II veteran, serving for the U.S. Army and was stationed in the Pacific. He played and managed industrial baseball for many years. Bill was a past member and president of the Daviess County Kentucky Lions Club, a past member of Owensboro-Daviess County Jaycees, and he served several years as Chairman for the Daviess County Fair. Bill was the Chief Operating Officer for Velvet Milk Company in Owensboro for over 30 years. He relocated from Kentucky to Deland, Florida in 1977 and made it his residence there ever since. He was currently co-owner and founder of the Deland-based business Sunny Hill International. Bill was also former President and CEO of another Deland-based business SECO Dairies-Golden 100 which served over 100 dairy plants in the U.S. and Canada. He was the managing partner and co-founder of Grand Products International, doing business in Central and South America, the Caribbean, and other countries. Bill was a past member of the Deland Chamber of Commerce and Deland-West Volusia Committee of 100, receiving the President's award at the latter for exemplary dedication and service; Bill & loving wife Georgetta are members of St Peter Catholic Church and the Lake Beresford Yacht Co.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife of over 66 years, Georgetta, two brothers Mort (wife, Barbara)and Walter (wife Jibby, both deceased), three sisters Mary Bea Blandford (husband Donald), Suzanne Coomes (husband Bucky), and Rose Bartley, three children Richard Murphy (wife Donna), Thomas Murphy and Kathy Hardesty (husband Chris), 6 grandchildren (Stephen Murphy, Brandon Hardesty, Kathleen Murphy, Sarah Murphy, Ryan Murphy , and Cari Murphy) and four great grand children (Justus Murphy, Ryken Murphy, Breandan Murphy, and Zipporah Murphy. The celebration of Bill Murphy's life will be held Wednesday June 10, at 10a.m., at St. Peters Catholic Church in DeLand. On Friday June 12 at 11:00 A.M., a prayer service will be held at the graveside at Resurrection Cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
