William Philip "Bill" McGovern

William Philip "Bill" McGovern, 76, of Owensboro, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at Norton Hospital in Louisville.
He was born in Hancock County to the late James B. McGovern, Sr. and Agnes McGovern. Philip was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
He retired from Whirlpool in 1997 after more than 33 years of service. He was foreman of the paint shop at retirement. Philip was a longtime, faithful member of the Immaculate Parish and also served as church custodian during his retirement years. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and had served as Faithful Navigator of the Precious Blood Council #10725. Philip enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was an enthusiastic U.K. Basketball Fan. He was a giving person who spent many years caring for others. Philip loved spending time with family (This often included sports), especially his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Carolyn L. McGovern in 2013; a son, Michael C. McGovern in 1994; siblings, James Bernard McGovern, Jr., Imogene Quinn, Ruth Quinn and Bridget Higdon.
He is survived by four sons, Philip L. (Cheryl) McGovern of Spottsville, William Patrick McGovern, at home, Joseph L. McGovern of Owensboro, and David M. (Kimberly) McGovern of Owensboro; seven grandchildren, Chelsey Carnahan, Dylan Burton, David Matthew McGovern II, Justin McGovern, Brittany McGovern, Noah and Whitley McGovern, and three great grandchildren, Kaylin and Ryker Carnahan and Kenna Riley ; a brother, John McGovern, of Filer, Idaho; sisters, Mary Young of Hawesville, Martha Hamilton of Owensboro, Mildred McGovern of Nazareth, Ann Johnson (Frank) of Evansville, Rita McGovern of Owensboro, Marie Ratliff of Phoenix Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral mass will be at 11 AM Saturday, October 29 at Immaculate Catholic Church with burial at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 2 until 8 PM, with prayers at 6 PM, and Saturday after 9 AM at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Knights of Columbus Council # 10725, 3306 Fenmore Street, Owensboro, KY, 42301.
