William A. "Bill" Mattingly III

William A. "Bill" Mattingly III, 70, of St. Joe, passed away May 15, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 27, 1948, to the late William A. Mattingly Jr. and Helen Elizabeth Mattingly. Bill served in the Navy during the Vietnam Era and received a Navy Achievement Medal. He was the founding president of the Kentucky Antique Farm Machinery Association, and one of the original members of the St. Joe Fire Department. Bill was retired after 34 years as a machinist with Big Rivers Electric and was also a farmer and a business owner, owning Mattingly Machine. He loved going to auctions, collecting antique tractors, and BBQing. Bill loved his '66 Mustang and enjoyed showing it at car shows. He was known for helping his neighbors solve mechanical issues, and in the afternoon, you may have found him drinking beer with his relatives and friends. Bill was of the Catholic faith, and a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. He will be very much missed by everyone who knew him. Along with his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a son, Brian Anthony Mattingly in 1972.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 47 years, Cathy Murphy Mattingly; children, Dale (Cristal) Mattingly, of Sacramento, Ryan Mattingly, of St. Joe, Ginger Mattingly, of St. Joe, and Jason (Laura) Mattingly, of Owensboro; sisters, Kathy (Bill) Evans, Sharon (John) Bell, and Judy (Rick) Payne; and brothers, Mike (Cheryl) Mattingly, and Neil (Debbie) Mattingly; grandchildren, Bryson, Hunter, Jase, Steve, and Brayden Mattingly, Bailey Thomas, Kailee and Eli Dunn, and Maria Ayala; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

A funeral mass will be 11am Saturday at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Fr. Richard Powers will be officiating. Visitation will be from 3pm to 8pm Friday evening at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, with prayers at 7:00 pm and Saturday from 9am to 11am at St. Alphonsus. Burial will follow the funeral mass in St. Alphonsus Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to St. Alphonsus Parrish Hall, Hospice of Western Kentucky, or the Diabetes Association.
