William J. Joe Layman, 77, of 9860 Hwy 815, Utica, died Sunday, October 28, 2007 at his residence. He was born January 15, 1930 to the late William A. and Myrtle Goodman Layman in Daviess County. He was a life long farmer and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He was always there to guide his family anytime they needed him.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Jean Booker Layman on September 10, 2002 and a brother, James Layman.
Survivors include his sons, Billy (Mary) Layman of Friendly Village, Paul J. Layman of Panther; his daughters, Sharon (Kevin) Shields of Owensboro, Betty Jo (John O.) Payne of McCrory, AR, Becky (Doug) Howe of Pellville, Mary (Larry) Reed of Owensboro; fourteen grandchildren, Billy Dale, Shane and Shawna Poole, Stephen McCarty, Stephanie (Jeremy) Whitmore, Tracy (Chris) Stallings, Billie Jean (Michael) Guy, Daniel, Julie and Eric Howe, Brian (Jackie) Layman, Paul W. (Ginny) Layman, Jennifer (Tim) Case, and Mark Boone; nineteen great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, at Glenn Funeral Home with burial in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday and after 9:00 AM Wednesday at the funeral home.
