William E. “Ed” Howard, 97, of Owensboro, passed away Monday, August 17, 2026, at Morning Pointe Senior Living. He was born in Vanderburgh County, Indiana to the late Joseph Orval and Mary G. Smith Howard and raised in Whitesville, Kentucky.
As a young man during the 1950’s, Ed worked in the steel mills of Gary, Indiana. He later moved south and pursued his passion of farming for a few decades while also working at and eventually retiring from Martin-Marietta Aluminum.
Mr. Howard was a long-time member of St. Pius the Tenth Catholic Church. Ed was a hard worker, an avid reader and enjoyed traveling with his wife, Grace, especially to the mountains. He was known for his kind, laid back personality and will be dearly missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Grace Steele Howard in 2019 and siblings, Charles Leo Howard, Eleanor Wathen, Grace Dyer, Rita Szemethy, Leonard Howard and Martin Howard.
Mr. Howard is survived by his sons, Gregory Steele Howard (Amber) of Greenwood, Indiana and Franklin Edward Howard (Aimee) of Florida; eight grandchildren, Lucas, Anna, Maggie, Kayla, Claire, Jack, Nick, and Sophia; great-grandchildren, Dawson, Finn, Bellamy, Rennick and one on the way; a sister, Sister Ann Marie Howard, OSB; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The funeral Mass will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 25th at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Visitation at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory will be Monday from 3:00 until 7:00 PM, with prayers at 6:30 PM, and Tuesday from 9:30 until 10:30 AM. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery.
