William Jackson (Billy) Holbrook

Bill Holbrook died in his home in Livermore, Kentucky, Tuesday afternoon, August 9, 2011. He was born in Owensboro, Kentucky, on February 8, 1935, to the late George Samuel Holbrook and Nannabelle Jackson Holbrook. He was predeceased by his parents and an infant son, Timothy Holbrook.

Mr. Holbrook held a Bachelor of Arts degree from Kentucky Wesleyan College, and a Master's degree and a Rank One in Education from Western Kentucky University. He retired after teaching for thirty-five years in the Owensboro and Daviess County school systems.

He was a member of Third Baptist Church, Owensboro, for fifty years, and was a Deacon, choir member, Sunday school teacher, and served on various church committees. He was a past president of the Owensboro Education Association, and a member of various civic, religious, and professional organizations.

Mr. Holbrook is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, the former Dorothy Jane Rhoads of Henderson, Kentucky; three children: Nancy Jane Holbrook Coleman, and her husband, Thomas Coleman, of Green Cove Springs, Florida; his son Christopher Lee Holbrook and his wife, Jan, of Livermore; and his son William Rhoads Holbrook and his wife, Trisha, of Morganfield, Kentucky. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Elizabeth Holbrook Clements and her husband Taylor Clements of Louisville, Christopher Jackson Holbrook of Livermore, Sarah Katherine Holbrook, William Thomas Holbrook, and Wesley Rhoads Holbrook of Morganfield, and a sister, Martha Jean Miles of Owensboro.

The family will receive visitors at Mr. Holbrook's home, 103 Broadway, Livermore, Kentucky, Friday afternoon, August twelfth, after three-thirty in the afternoon.

Memorial services will take place at Third Baptist Church, 527 Allen Street, Owensboro, Kentucky, at two o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, August thirteenth, with the Reverend Dr. James K. Byrd officiating. Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory is handling the arrangements.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of donations to Third Baptist Church Music Ministry, 527 Allen Street, Owensboro, Kentucky, 42303.
