William J. Hein, 73, of Owensboro, passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2006 at his home. He was born in Daviess Co., Ky. to the late Frank & Anna Froehlich Hein. He was retired from Bell South after 31 years of service and retired after eight years as the Daviess Co. coordinator for Disaster & Emergency Services. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and donated countless hours of telephone services to the churches and schools in the Diocese of Owensboro. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Father Connor Council #6101 in Sorgho, the Right To Life of Owensboro, and the Coffee Clubs at Hardees and Blandfords Drive In. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 696 and the American Legion James L. Yates Post 9. He was also a member of the Booster Club at Owensboro Catholic High School where he also was a recipient of the annual Emerald Award, and a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a very devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Helen Jean McBride Hein, two sons and their wives, Frank J. Duncan & Karen Hein and Stephen C. & Julie Hein, and two daughters and their husbands, Joanie M. & George Wathen and Vicki H. & Joe Mills, all of Owensboro, 15 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and his brother, Jean F. Hein of Owensboro, and several nieces & nephews.
Services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 4, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in the Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday and after 8:30 A.M. Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home. A veterans memorial service will be held at 5:30 P.M. and prayers will be at 6:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial contributions to be made to the Owensboro Catholic High School Athletic Dept, c/o O.C.H.S., 1524 W. Parrish Ave., Owensboro, Ky. 42301 or to the Passionist Nuns, 8564 Crisp Rd., Whitesville, Ky. 42378.
