William Grady Harreld, Jr., 88, of Owensboro, died Sunday, December 14, 2003 at his home in Hancock County following a lengthy illness. Born in Owensboro, the son of the late William Grady and Floris Taylor Harreld, Sr. he was a graduate of Owensboro High School and attended the University of Kentucky.
Mr. Harreld retired as president of Harrelds Drug Stores and Harreld Investments. He was a member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church, on whose Administrative Board he served for many years, and a board member of the former Owensboro Federal Savings and Loan Association, serving as chairman of the board and on the loan and executive committees. He had also been a director of the former Citizens State Bank, where he was a member of the audit, trust and pension committees and the advisory committee to the board. Mr. Harreld had been a member of the Owensboro Board of Education for sixteen years, having served as Chairman for four years, a board member and chairman of the Girl Scouts, a former board member of the Owensboro Rotary Club, a director of the Chamber of Commerce, was a founding board member and first secretary of the Owensboro Jaycees, a former board member of the United Way and former president of the Owensboro Country Club.
His first wife, Susie Jagoe Harreld, preceded him in death in 1980. Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Harreld, a son and daughter-in-law, William Grady and Carol Harreld, III, of Owensboro; three daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Howard Taylor of Dover, Delaware, Susan and Ronnie Wells of Spice Knob, and Camilla and Glenn Taylor of Owensboro; a step-son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Tisha Ziemer; and a step daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Joe Yeand, both of Owensboro; nine grandchildren, Courtney Harreld of Denver, CO, Lindsey Harreld of Nashville, TN, Brad Taylor of Columbia, SC, Becky Taylor Howerin of Dover, DE, Lora Wells Simon of Woodbridge, VA, Jagoe Wells Reid of Lander, WY, Christy Taylor Chaney, Glenn Peyton Taylor, Jr., and Katherine Taylor, all of Owensboro, four step-grandchildren, Ryan Ziemer, Corey Ziemer, Shannon Yeand Raines, and Angela Yeand, all of Owensboro; nine great-grandchildren and two great grandchildren awaiting arrival.
Services are at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 18, 2003 at Glenn Funeral Home, where visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 17, 2003 and after 11:00 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery.
