William O. Gish, 83, of Owensboro passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at the Owensboro Medical Health System. Born in Muhlenberg County on December 23, 1926, he was the son of the late John Martin and Anna Pearl Stirsman Gish; was retired from Whirlpool where he worked for 43 years; and was a member of the Sorgho Baptist Church. Mr. Gish was an Army veteran of World War II and enjoyed gardening and restoring old cars and trucks. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Robert Ashton Gish and John Wesley Gish, and sisters, Vera Humphrey, Hattie Dearmond, Ester Bethel, Azelene Stewart, and Jewell Dean Higgs.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Nancy Carol Whitmer Gish; sons, Ricky (Sandy) Gish of Owensboro and Mark (Teresa) Gish of Philpot; grandchildren, Brandon Gish, Cameron Gish, Melanie Browning, and Steven Gish all of Owensboro; step-grandchildren, Rob Park and Renee' Boehman both of Philpot; and six great-grandchildren.
Services are 12 Noon Friday, February 12, 2010 in the Chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Dr. Dennis McFadden and Rev. Larry Birkhead officiating followed by burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sorgho. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. on Thursday and after 10 a.m. Friday.
