William Nicholas "Nick" Estes

William Nicholas “Nick” Estes, 85, of Owensboro passed into Paradise following a short illness on Tuesday, February 27, 2024. The Muhlenburg County native was born June 28, 1938, to the late Samuel Brazel Estes and Nancy Elizabeth Beadnell Estes. With his brothers, Don and Dwight, Nick grew up in the Dunmor community, roaming the fields, dribbling a basketball, swimming and fishing in Rocky Creek. He would maintain a love of fishing throughout his lifetime. Camping and fishing at Rochester Dam were some of his happiest times. Nick’s high school sweetheart, Sandra Joines, became his wife, sharing 57 years together until her death in 2014. Blessed with a great mechanical ability, his love of cars led him to establish 231 Auto Sales and Spencer County Auto Sales. Car racing became a passion, one he shared with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, four generations of Estes Racing. Until his recent illness, he worked every day at the junkyard, a job he dearly loved, raised a garden and remained active in the racing community. Nick was truly one of the good guys, a friend to everyone, a helping hand to those in need, loved by everyone who knew him.

In addition to his parents and wife, Nick was preceded in death by his brothers, Dwight and Don Estes and son-in-law, Larry McMahan.

Those left to cherish his memory include his three children, Ricky Estes (Tina Jent) of Rockport, IN, Sheila McMahan of Owensboro, and Sam Estes (Angel) also of Owensboro;  eight grandchildren who brought him so much joy: Justin Estes (Breya), Chase Estes, Zachary Estes (Caitlyn), Logan Ryan, Maggie Fenwick (Dylan), Jon Richardson (Natalie), Jessica Jackson, and Trevor Jackson; 10 great grandchildren, Caden, Ady, Jordan, Jillian, Lillie, Zepplin, Blakely, Brynlee, Brayleigh, and Jaxson; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be noon Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 until 7:00 pm and Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of service. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to American Cancer Society PO Box 6704 Hagerstown, MD 21741.
