William G. Dobbs

William G. Dobbs, 82, of Owensboro, died November 28, 2014. He was born August 12, 1932 in Drakesboro, Kentucky to the late William Joseph and Lettie Mae (Coin) Dobbs. Bill graduated from Drakesboro High School and Western Kentucky Teachers College (WKU).

He was a veteran of the US Army.

Bill was owner of Gardner Insurance Agency. He was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he served as elder, Superintendent of Sunday School, teacher, clerk of session, and on various committees.

Bill was a member of Breakfast Civitan Club where he served as President, Secretary-Treasurer and was known for his record breaking Civitan fruit cake sales. Bill also served as Grand Noble of Odd Fellows Lodge 132. He was a Kentucky Colonel, a player's agent for Southern Little League and an avid sports fan. He especially enjoyed University of Kentucky Basketball.

Bill was preceded in death by his brothers, Jimmy and Jerry Dobbs; sisters, Martine Holmgren and Alma Dobbertin.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Phyllis West Dobbs; daughters, Menisa Taylor (Wilson) of Masonville and Rachelle Gilles (Paul) of Louisville; son, Jason Dobbs of Owensboro; grandchildren, Ashton Taylor Poynter of Texas, Landon and Shayne Taylor of Masonville, Kailey and Jansen Dobbs of Owensboro, Hayden and Hannah Gilles of Louisville; great-grandchild, Brylee Poynter; sisters, Martha Billingsley (Leonard) of Kankakee, Illionois, Wanda Angel (Dale) of Columbia Missouri; brother, Donnie Dobbs (Ruth) of Drakesboro; and several nieces and nephews. William loved his family very much.

The funeral service will be 2pm Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sorgho. Visitation will be from 2-6pm Sunday and after 1pm Monday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 910 Booth Ave. Owensboro, Kentucky 42301.
