William P. Brown, Sr., 84, of Owensboro, passed away on Friday, October 23, 2009 at the Medco Nursing Center in Henderson, Ky. He was born in Owensboro on January 13, 1925 to the late Robert Lincoln Brown, Sr. and Emogene Howlett Brown. Bill was retired from the former First Home Federal Savings and Loan Association where he was Secretary and then later was with Orbit Gas Co. and was also a customs and IRS agent and was involved with real estate. He was a Army veteran of World War II and received a Purple Heart from wounds suffered in the war. After serving in the service, he attended and graduated from the University of Dayton where he received his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and later his Master's Degree and an honorary doctorate. He then married his wife, Opal Belcher and they had five children. He loved spending time with them and all his family. He was a member of St. Stephen Cathedral which he loved and attended almost everyday that he could. He was also preceded in death by a son, David Howlett Brown, a daughter, Barbara Ann Brown, and a brother-in-law, William H. Booth.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Opal Brown, two sons, William Patrick Brown, Jr. and John Stephen Brown, and a daughter, Janet M. Brown, all of Owensboro, two grandchildren, Matthew Howlett Brown and Ashley J. Brown, both of Owensboro, three brothers, Donald Brown and wife Barbara, Robert Lincoln Brown, Jr., and Jerry Brown and wife Mary Ann, all of Owensboro, a sister, Betty Brown Booth of Nashville, TN, and several nieces and nephews that he cherished as well.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 27, at St. Stephen Cathedral.
