William G. Bill Blincoe of Owensboro, passed on to a new life on March 13, 2006 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born on October 5, 1928 and spent his early years farming the Jim Ellis Estate. He left Owensboro in 1949 to serve in the armed forces as a small arms mechanic during the Korean War. He returned home to begin a career as an electrician. He retired from General Electric in 1984.
He married in 1954 and shared his life with Mary Dolores Payne for 52 years. During this time he served his family and community through his example, guidance, works, and acts of mercy. His spent many enjoyable years of service in Catholic churches, schools, Habitat for Humanity, and St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was an active Third Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. His volunteer work extended outside the church to other community arenas. Most recently, he served in his neighborhood association and volunteered at Ben Hawes State Park. He was often called the Mayor of Bon Harbor.
He received the Key to Owensboro twice. First in 1976 when he saved the life of a young athelete who collapsed on the basketball floor with cardiac arrest, and second in 2004 he received the Key for his service and dedication to Habitat for Humanity.
His life touched many, including family, friends, acquaintances and strangers. He will be missed daily by his wife, Dolores, his children: Judy and Steve Carrico of Owensboro; Mike and Janet Blincoe of Mt. Airy, MD.; Bill and Sarah Blincoe of Wooster, OH.; Donna Blincoe of Louisville; Lisa and Dr.Terry Ward of Owensboro; Joseph Blincoe of Elizabethtown; his grandchildren; Drs. Matt and Amy Carrico of Owensboro; Terri and John Congelton of Memphis, IN.; Aaron Carrico of Owensboro; Adam and Clay Blincoe and Kristin and Brian Burkett of Mt. Airy, MD.; Bethany, Emily and Will Blincoe of Wooster, OH; Sophi Grace Blincoe of Louisville; Tanner,Tyler, Molly, Maggie, and Macy Ward of Owensboro; and one great grandson, William Tuttle Carrico of Owensboro. Mr. Blincoe was one of six children, and is survived by Albert Blincoe of Owensboro, Mary Grace Graham of Indianapolis, and Theresa Deweese of Boonville, IN, along with their spouses and children.
Funeral services will be held, Thursday, March 16, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Precious Blood Catholic Church. Visitation will be Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home, from 4 to 8 p.m., with prayers at 7:00p.m., and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Condolences may be in the form of donations to the Free Clinic of Owensboro, or to Hospice Association Inc. Donations of time and energy are appreciated at Habitat for Humanity.
