William A. Alvey

Rev. William A. "Bill" Alvey, 70, of Owensboro, passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born on June 29, 1942 in Daviess Co., KY. and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. The Lord called Rev. Alvey to the ministry at the age of 16. The first church he pastored was Narrows Baptist Church in Ohio Co. followed by pastoring Immanuel Baptist Church for seven years. He then went to Old Panther Creek Baptist Church near Whitesville for about eight years and then his last church was Redhill Baptist Church for two years. Rev. Alvey served as an interim pastor and supply pastor for many years in a number of churches. He served at Bethel Baptist Church in McLean Co., New Hope Baptist Church in Newtonville, IN, Rockport Baptist and Lincoln Hills Baptist, both in Rockport, IN, and Parrish Ave. Baptist, First Freewill Baptist, and Vineyard Baptist, all in Owensboro.

Rev. Alvey loved studying and reading the Bible, and going to school, taking various courses pertaining to reading and writing. He had currently been writing a book about being a "Circuit Riding Preacher" in the 1800's. He was an avid history enthusiast loving to travel and visiting historical sites. He was a very compassionate and loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Elmer Ray Alvey on January 7 2002 and Anna Gaddis Alvey on March 11, 2009, and a sister, Patsy Roach on June 7, 2000.

Surviving are his wife of 12 years, Sharon Alvey, a daughter, Jessica Hayes and husband Donny of Owensboro, four sons, Christopher A. Alvey and wife Marcella of Tennyson, IN, Jon G. Alvey and wife Debra of Chrisney, IN, and Steven Means and Kevin Means, both of Owensboro, nine grandchildren, Jonathan R. Alvey, Heather N. Alvey, Bethany C. Alvey, Lyndsay R. Alvey, Danika M. Bolton-Russell, Karissa Means, Tyler Means, Alexis Means, and Dylan Means, one great grandchild, Allianna Means, three brothers, Charles (Ellen) Alvey and Doug Alvey, all of Owensboro, Rev. Tim (Dena) Alvey of Dale, IN, and a sister, Kathy (Gary) Wilson of Calhoun.

Services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 10, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial following in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday and after 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
