October 7, 1927 — September 26, 2016

Wilfred Lee Hagan

Wilfred Lee Hagan, surrounded by his family, passed away on Monday, September 26, under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky.

Wilfred was born on October 7, 1927 to Jerome and Rose Annie Hagan in Whitesville, KY. He was raised on land near his grandfather's farm on Steven's School Road and spoke many times of riding in the wagon to go into Whitesville to attend church at St. Mary of the Woods. He loved going to the St. Mary's picnic.

Wilfred met the love of his life, Mary Lois Lanham, working at McAtee's Department store in downtown Owensboro. He was broken-hearted when his wife of over 65 years passed away on August 30th, 2016.

Wilfred served in the U.S. Army in Germany. When he came back home he started working at the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier and delivered mail for over 35 years. He was a hard worker who often worked several jobs to provide for his family. When he came home from work he would tend to his garden growing tomatoes, green beans and other vegetables. Wilfred also took great pride in growing beautiful roses for his wife, Mary Lois.

Wilfred's greatest passion was his family. He enjoyed planning his family's annual summer vacations. No matter where we were Dad would always find a church for his family to attend on Sunday. Wilfred also enjoyed traveling with his life-long friends; Frank and Skippy Hayden, Rose and Tommy Danhauer, and Hugh and Helen Riney.

Wilfred was a man of faith who prayed on his knees every morning and evening. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes and was active in several ministries; St. Vincent de Paul Society, a Hos pitality Minister, the Men's Club, as well as working at the church picnic. Wilfred took great pride in being a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 817.

He was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel in August 1997.

Wilfred was a kind and gentle soul with a great sense of humor and wit and we will miss him greatly.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lois Hagan; son Michael Hagan; his son-in-law Jerry Bartlett; his parents Jerome and Rose Annie Hagan; his brothers Emil Hagan and Henry Hagan; his sisters Dorothy Riley, Lydia Jenkins, and Anita Bowlds.

He is survived by his children Karen Hodskins (Edward), Deborah Bartlett, Patrick Hagan (Dianne), and Teresa Aull (Ricky), all of Owensboro; Mary Susan Clark (Dennis) of Georgetown, KY and Stephen Hagan (Susan) of Paducah, KY.

He had 20 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at Our Lady of Lourdes church at 10:00 AM Friday with Rev. Patrick Reynolds officiating. Visitation will be Thursday 2:00 to 8:00 PM with prayers at 6:00 PM and Friday from 8:30 AM at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery with military honors.
