Whitson Conway Edwards

Whitson Conway Edwards, Jr. (W.C.) passed away at age 84 on Monday, April 4, 2011 in Owensboro, Kentucky. Whit was born to Whitson Conway Edwards and Willie Evelyn Perkins on August 23, 1926 in Madisonville, Kentucky. A graduate of Madisonville High School and a student at University of Evansville, he served during World War II in the Army Air Force in the Pacific Theater. In December 1947 he married the love of his life, Marylou Ketner. Whit worked in the insurance industry, served his community as city councilman in Evansville (receiving more votes than the mayor) and was committed to programs for youth baseball. He was a long time and dedicated member of the Optimists International, serving as Governor of the Kentucky-West Virginia Chapter. Whit was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Owensboro, serving as an elder and in the choir. He was a devoted husband to his surviving wife of 63 years, Marylou, and a loving father to his sons Whitson Thomas (Tom) Edwards and his wife Wendy, the late William Gray (Bill) Edwards and his widow Debbie Edwards Hickox, and loving grandfather to Eric (Diana) Edwards, Nikki (Don) Vandenbord, Erin Blair, Sara Edwards, Whitney (Tim) Randall and especially proud great-grandfather to Ryan and Bryce Vandenbord. Calling hours at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, 900 Old Hartford Rd., will be Sunday, April 10 from 1:00-5:00 P.M. and after 10:00 A.M. Monday. Funeral services will be 12 Noon Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to support youth programs in memory of Whit Edwards, Owensboro Noon Optimists Club, PO Box 1393 Owensboro, KY 42302 or to the First Presbyterian Church, 1328 Griffith Ave., Owensboro, Ky. 42301. His love of life, his family, golf and everything Kentucky will long be remembered by his family and those who knew him.
