Wesley Unc Taylor

Wesley "Sonny" "Unc" Taylor, 76, of Philpot went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, October 15, 2009. Born December 26, 1932 in Whitesville, Wes was the son of the late Thomas and Ethel Carter Taylor; was an Air Force veteran; and was retired from General Electric and then spent 25 years with Modern Welding as a Supervisor before retiring from there. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for the past 50 years; was a Kentucky Colonel; and had been active in AA recovery for the past 8 years. Mr. Taylor was a Christian and a member of the Crosspointe Baptist Church. He loved fishing, hunting, woodworking, and in his own words "I enjoy life." His favorite song was "It is No Secret" because of the message of what God can do.

Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by Betty Lou Lyons Taylor, his wife of 39 years; Anna Smothers Taylor, his wife of 4 years; a sister, Bettye Ebelhar; and a son, Scott Belt.

Wes is survived by his wife of 8 years, Linda Ricketts Taylor; a daughter, Lisa (Mike) Evans of Owensboro; grandchildren, Jesse and Sam Belt of Florida, and Nick Evans, Josh (Alicia) Evans, and Zac Evans all of Owensboro; two great-grandchildren, Logan and Landen Evans; a sister, Opal Faye Embry of Lexington; a brother-in-law, Russell Ebelhar of Owensboro; and five nephews and a niece.

Services are 10 a.m. Monday, October 19, 2009 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Ferrell Isenberg officiating followed by burial in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
