Rev. Wayne H. Hemphill, 91, of 1714 Antler Ave., Owensboro, died Sunday, September 5,
2004 at Leisure Years Nursing Home. Born June 13, 1913 in Tryon, Oklahoma, he was the son
of the late Leroy and Daisy Turner Hemphill. He was a member of Good Shepherd Church. He
was a graduate of Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. He pastored at First
Assembly of God in Henderson, Kentucky for 18 years and at First Assembly of God in
Raceland, Kentucky for 15 years. He served as District Secretary/Treasure and Assistant
Superintendent of the Assemblies of God and as General Presbyter of the General Council of
the Assemblies of God in Springfield, Missouri. He was a WW II Army veteran. Hobbies
included fishing, gardening, and watching the Braves and Cardinals baseball games. He was
preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Thelma Tolin Hemphill, four brothers; Oscar, Carrol,
Bob and Jim and two sisters; Sylvia and Laura.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law; Laura and Jim Morris, a granddaughter and her
husband; Stephanie and Quincy Moorman, three grandsons; Josh and wife Kista Cumpton,
Dustin and Jon Morris, one great-granddaughter; Mia Moorman, one great-grandson; Max
Moorman, two sisters; Retta Gross of Tyron, Oklahoma and Betty Hall of Edmond, Oklahoma,
one brother; Walter and his wife Bobbi of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, one sister-in-law; Betty
Jo Hemphill of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, three nephews; Kenny Cross of Bartlesville, Oklahoma,
Don Hemphill of Palm Desert, California, Ron Hemphill of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, and one
niece; Joy Poietevent of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma.
Funeral services are 1:00 P.M. Saturday, September 11, 2004 at Good Shepherd Church with
burial in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4-8 P.M. Friday and 9 A.M.
12:30 P.M. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home.
