Wanda Ray

On Thursday, March 9, 2017 Wanda Simmons Ray, 79, flew to heaven to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus and we are pretty sure she dropped off another jar of blackberry jam to Conway Twitty when she arrived. She was born in Breckenridge County to the late Earl Ray and Geneva Smith Simmons, had worked for Dal-tile, and was a member of Safe Harbor Christian Fellowship. Those are the basics of her life, but it was the vibrant, full of life personality that really tells the story. Wanda loved people, all people, anyone she met, everyone was a friend or would soon be one. This social butterfly could strike up a conversation and bring you into her wonderful world without hesitation, mostly by telling you stories about "her three girls" who were her proudest accomplishment. She traveled often making new friends and new stories to tell wherever she went, which included London, Spain, France, Morocco, and her favorite spot on earth, Kentucky Lake. Wanda worked hard throughout her life, raising a family, and tending a farm, no job was too tough for this lady. However, she had another side to her, an out of this world sense of humor and sly giggle. Music, was a constant in her life, Vestal Goodman belted out all of Wanda's favorite gospel songs and Donnie Carlton could make her swoon over his renditions of Conway Twitty while she danced like no one was watching at the Time Out Lounge. She loved horses, especially Harley and Dusty, but it was her grandbabies that stole her heart. They were her everything.

She was also preceded in death by her companion, Albin M. Ray, Jr.; and siblings, Helen Dame, Darrell Simmons, and Carol Anne Simmons.

Survivors include "her three girls"; Ava Sturgeon (Frank) of Hawesville, Patty Alsip (Chris) of Utica and Kelly Gossett (Bruce) of Hartford; son, Terry Gene Morris, Jr. (Julie); grandbabies, Joshua Shively (Sara), Jacob Shively (Torie), Jeremiah Sturgeon (April), Jessica Young (Jason), Aaron Lundy (Sarah), Andrew Lundy, Lynsie Smith (Jarrod), Leslie Edge (Jason), Laura Gossett (Dillon Vincent), and Luke Gosset; great-grandbabies, Liam, Grace, Caiden, Zander, Makayla, Makenzie, Gabriel, Michael, Wyatt, Whitley, Warren, Rayleigh, and Lilly; and sisters, Sharon Fallin, Carolene Koch, Eruma Taylor and Donna Thompson.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday and after 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Alzheimer's Association.
