Wanda Louise Hale, 91, of Philpot passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at her home under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of W. Kentucky. The Christian County native was born April 25, 1934, to the late Evan Riley Brasher and Bonnie Henrie Faughender. Wanda was employed at the G.E. tube plant in Owensboro from 1954 until she retired in 1978. She then worked with the family business of Hale, Riney & Gilmore, Inc. Wanda and her husband spent their retirement years traveling and visiting all fifty states, touring the contiguous 48 in their 5th wheel RV. Her husband said people were always asking Wanda if she got tired of traveling but then tell them that she was the one “cracking the whip” to get on with planning their next trip as soon as they returned from the last one. Wanda said that out of all the places they visited, Upper Peninsula (UP) in Michigan was her favorite where they had plans to visit for a week and ended up staying a month. Wanda’s two favorite sayings were “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all” and getting old is not for sissies.” She was a faithful member of Bethabara Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, Wanda also was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Hugh Ray Hale who died in 2012; her brothers, Willis, Jimmy, Don, and Lee Brasher; a granddaughter, Heather Dawn Cox.
Those left to cherish her memory include her two daughters, Doris (Jerry) Cox of Owensboro and Sandy (Bert) Zakroff of Cape Girardeau, MO; seven grandchildren, Joshua (Nancy) Cox, Jason (Jennifer) Cox, Caitlin Cox (Derrick Snyder), Rochel (Brittany) Sanchez, Ari Zakroff, Tiffany Beard, and James Eurcho; seven great grandchildren, Jacob Cox, Josiah Cox, Asher Kinison, Emerson Snyder, Victoria Goncalves, Sofia Goncalves, and Laken Goncalves; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be noon Saturday, July 19 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with same day visitation from 9:00 am until the time of service. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
