Walter Younge Wood, Sr., 85, of 2220 Fieldcrest Dr., Owensboro passed away Monday, April 24, 2006 at the Hermitage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born February 11, 1921 in Penrod, KY, he was the son the of the late Clayton and Nola Hughes Wood. Mr. Wood was retired from the Daviess County State Vocational School where he taught for 15 years; was an Army veteran of World War II landing on Omaha Beach on June 7, 1944 and later retired from the Army Reserves. He was also a coin collector; loved to travel; and loved spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nona Louise Wood in 2002 and a brother, Herbert Wood.
He is survived by a daughter, Suzi (and her husband Jody) Brown of Owensboro; a son, Walter Y. Wood, Jr. of Franklin, TN; two grandchildren, Clayton Wood and Daley Wood both of Franklin; and a brother, Bill Wood of Henderson.
Services are 1 P.M. Thursday, April 27, 2006 at Christ Chapel, Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Burial will be in the Field of Honor following military honors rendered by VFW Post 696. Visitation will be at Glenn Funeral Home from 4-8 P.M. on Wednesday and after noon on Thursday.
