Walter Russell Matthews

Walter Russell Matthews, 74, of 1703 Payne Avenue, Owensboro, Kentucky, died Tuesday, July 31, 2001 at his home. Born in Evansville, Indiana, March 27, 1927, Mr Matthews is the son of the late Oscar Matthews and N. Mildred Lampton.

Mr. Matthews was a barber for 13 years and a millwright with Local 1080 for 19 years. He was a member of Wing Avenue Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carol Matthews, his two sons, Bobby G. Matthews of Augusta, Georgia and R. Wayne Matthews of Newburgh, Indiana and three grandchildren.

Friends may call at Glenn Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 2, and after 9:00 a.m. on Friday, August 3. The funeral service will be held in the Glenn Funeral Home Chapel Friday, August 3, at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery.
