Walter Lockett Heal, 89, of Philpot, KY, died Wednesday, March 26, at Heartford House, Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born on May 21,1924, in Hartford, KY, to the late Walter C. Heal and Jenny Louise Lockett Heal. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Owensboro, KY, and frequently attended the Beech Grove Christian Church. In 1999, he and his wife moved from LaGrange, IN, to Philpot to be closer to their extended family.
Mr. Heal was in the US Navy for 6 years and in the US Army for 14 years retiring after 20 years of service. Walter served in both World War II and the Korean War. After his military retirement he was employed at Howe Military School, Howe, IN, where he was instrumental in guiding the rifle team to an Indiana state marksmanship championship and second place in the national military school division. His final employer was Fan Coach Industries in Mishawaka, Indiana.
He is survived by his wife, Martha A. Heal (Beane); daughter, Janet Wildeboor (Ed) of Renton, WA; sons, Charles Robert (Janis) of Rowlett, TX; Gary Walter (Cathy) of LaGrange, IN; and Stephen Wayne (Crystal) of Jacksonville, NC; a sister, Patricia Butler of Owensboro; 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was loved and will be missed by the many people whose lives he touched.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to The First Christian Church Building Fund, Hospice of Western Kentucky, or your favorite charity.
Funeral services will be at 12 pm Saturday, March 29 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation hours will be on Friday, March 28th from 4 pm to 7 pm and on Saturday from 10 am to 12 noon. Burial will take place at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
