Walter Thomas Franey

Walter Thomas "W.T." Franey, 89, of Owensboro, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at his home. Born in Daviess County, a son of the late Walter and Alice Bumpus Franey, he was a member of Sts. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church and retired after 45 years from Kentucky Bearing Service. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Helen Froehlich Franey, who died February 17, 2007; a great grandson, Dalton Scott Hays; his brothers, Joe Franey, Dennis Franey, Richard Franey, and Hugh Franey; and his sister, Ann Powell.

Survivors include six sons, Tom Franey and his wife, Donna, of Bowling Green, Van Franey of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Larry Franey and his wife, Becky, Bill Franey and his wife, Angela, Keith Franey and his wife, Cathy, and Lee Franey, all of Owensboro; three daughters, Gail Rusk and her husband, Bob, of Albertville, Ala., Vicki Sims of Owensboro, and Alice Hays and her husband, Mike, of Owensboro; his sister, Dot Barnard of Whitesville; his brothers, Clifford Franey of Lindsay, Cal., and Roger Franey of Pismo Beach, Cal.; 28 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Services, officiated by Rev. Carl McCarthy, are at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Sts. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday and from 9:00 until 10:30 a.m. Friday, at Glenn Funeral Home, where prayers will be said at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Owensboro Catholic High School Elevator Fund.
