Wallace Couty, 89, of 908 Charles Scott Drive, Owensboro, died Monday July 30, 2001 at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was born in Hancock County the son of the late John and Nellie Rowley Couty on April 5, 1912. His wife, Rachel Butler Couty preceded him in death on August 27, 1991.

He retired in 1977 from Martin-Marietta as a metal inspector and was a member of Hall Street Baptist Church. He was a member of the co-op Sunday school class, served on the board of deacons and had served as chairman of the trustess.

Survivors include a son, Wallace Ray Couty of Columbus, GA; four daughters, Rovella Mosley, Lula Campbell and Enola Louise Couty, all of Owensboro, and Catherine Gwaltney of Indianapolis, IN; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three brothers, John B. Couty of Hawesville, Virgil Couty of Oklahoma City and Eugene Couty of Arkansas; several nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday August 2, 2001 at Glenn Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Reverend Joe Kitchens. Burial will follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. His family will receive friends at Glenn Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday August 1, 2001 and after 10:00 a.m. Thursday.
