Walker Poppie Basham, Jr., 74, of 2107 McFarland Ave., Owensboro, died there Wednesday, October 31, 2001, at Leisure Years Nursing Home. He was born August 28, 1927 in Daviess County, Kentucky the son of Walker H. & Gertrude Barnett Basham. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Cook Basham, on August 8, 2000; and a son, Walker Eugene Basham.
He retired as owner/operator of J & J Pawn Shop & Grocery, was a Daviess County Deputy Sheriff for 10 years and a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of Veteran of Foreign Wars and Eagles No. 2414, a former deacon of Parrish Avenue Baptist Church and a Kentucky Colonel.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Basham of Owensboro and Todd Basham of Louisville; two daughters, Vickie Basham and Debbie Durbin, both of Owensboro; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Joyce Gilmore of Lovington, IL.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 02, 2001 at Glenn Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Reverend Billy Marcum. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery. His family will receive friends at Glenn Funeral Home after 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 02, 2001.
