W. P. Wheeler

W. P. "Bubby" Wheeler, 86, of Owensboro, passed away on Friday, January 11, 2013 at his home. He was born on January 8, 1927 in McLean Co., KY to the late Ernest and Lettie Mason Wheeler. Bubby served as Principal at Daviess Co. High School from 1958 until his retirement in 1981. He was the first principal to serve when the school moved to it's present location. He served on the Board of Controls of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association and was also the president. He was selected as "Outstanding Young Man" of Owensboro-Daviess Co. in 1963, worked with the United Way, and also served on the board of Junior Achievement for many years. Bubby was a member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church and a U. S. Army veteran of World War II where he was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. He enjoyed being around people and entertaining friends in his home.

Besides his parents, Bubby was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Ree Sandefur Wheeler in 1992, and two brothers, Eugene and Wilfred Wheeler.

Surviving is his daughter, Rhonda Thompson of Owensboro, three grandchildren, Jennifer Foster and husband Chad, Adam Thompson, and Scott Thompson and wife Nina, all of Owensboro, six great grandchildren, Maya, Sasha, and Scarlett Foster, and Kalie, Molly, and Max Thompson, a brother, Bill Wheeler and wife Margie of Summerville, S. C., and a very dear friend, Ellen Hayden of Owensboro.

Private services will be held with burial in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory are in charge of arrangements.
