W. O. Spencer

Rev. W.O. Spencer, 88, of 3906 Greenfield Lane, Owensboro, KY, died Sunday, January 09, 2005, at Hillcrest Healthcare Center in Owensboro. He was born March 13, 1916 to the late Hargis Lee and Clauda McGuire Spencer in Lee County, KY. Rev. Spencer was ordained in 1942 and began pastoring the Fordsville Baptist Church, he pastored several churches in Ohio County, Daviess County and other surrounding counties. He also pastored East Baptist Church in Paducah for several years. He retired in 1981 from Hall Street Baptist Church where he lovingly pastored for 25 years. He graduated from Campbellsville College in 1951, enjoyed hunting, fishing and loved being outdoors.

He was preceded in death by three brothers; Herman, S.L., and Matt Spencer; four sisters, Ada Nolan, Ruby Spencer, Allivene Gilbert and Golden Stamper.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Dorothy Patrick Spencer; one brother-in-law, John Patrick and his wife, Irene of Livermore, four sister-in-laws; Frankie Young, Doris Woosley, Ann Howell Wood and her husband, Tony, and Dorothy Atherton Spencer, all of Owensboro; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, at the Hall Street Baptist Church, with burial in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:00 until 7:00 PM Monday, and after 10:00 AM Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home. Memorial contibutions may be made to the Hall Street Baptist Church Activities Center, 1102 Hall Street, Owensboro, KY, 42303.
