Virginia H. Schroader

Virginia House Schroader, 90, of Owensboro, passed away Monday, July 23, 2007, at the Carmel Home. She was born February 10, 1917 to the late Van and Mae Taylor House in Ohio County. After college she taught in the Ohio County and Owensboro school systems. She married Jim Schroader in 1944 and became a homemaker and helped establish and operate an electrical contracting business.

Her creative homemaking skills included gardening, canning, sewing, photography and designing. She also enjoyed raising animals. She had a passion for reading and was a lifelong learner. Her devotion to the Lord was evident in the way she raised her children and in her service as a Sunday school teacher at the First Baptist Church. In the final years of her life, she was attended by loving caregivers at the Carmel Home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Calvin Schroader in 1989, two brothers, G.W. House and Van House, Jr., and one sister, Hallie Wright.

Survivors include her son, John Schroader and his wife, Nancy of Owensboro, her daughter, Marie Mann of Owensboro, a former son-in-law, David Mann of Owensboro; four grandchildren, Cari Addington, Laura, Rachel and Aaron Mann, two step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Norma Dale Patterson of Olaton, KY.

Services will be 11:30 AM Friday, at Glenn Funeral Home with burial in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 5:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday and after 10:00 AM Friday at the funeral home.
