Virginia Harper McCarty

May 12, 1925 — March 30, 2014

Virginia Harper McCarty, 88, of Owensboro, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at Kindred Hillcrest Transitional Care and Rehabilitation. She was born in Owensboro to the late Carl Blandford and Ola Mae (Sims) Harper.

Virginia was a 1943 graduate of Owensboro Senior High and a longtime member of Century Christian Church. She was previously a member at First Christian Church. Virginia worked in the office of Doctors Day, Fuchs and Roby in Whitesville, Kentucky for more than thirty years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William M. McCarty, Sr. in 1991; sisters, Helen Tichenor and Wanda Henry; and brothers, Jay L., Kenneth and Charles Harper.

Virginia is survived by a daughter, Linda Hardesty (Ken); a son, Bill McCarty, Jr. (Lora), both of Owensboro; grandchildren, Jarrod McCarty (Leslie), Jillian McCarty, both of Owensboro, Rev. Josh Hardesty of Salvisa, KY, Virginia Megan Hardesty and Jacob Vance Hardesty, both of Owensboro; brothers, Harold and Larry Harper, both of Chicago; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 12 Noon on Thursday, April 3 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Rev. Josh Hardesty will officiate. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sorgho. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM on Wednesday and after 10 AM on Thursday at the funeral home.
