Virginia A. Henry, formerly of 530 Yale Place, Owensboro, came to the end of life's journey; took the hand of Jesus as He guided her safely across the River Jordan as she slept on April 24, 2010 at her daughter's home in Deanfield, KY. She was born on February 24, 1924 to the late W.K., Sr. and Alice Alverson of Greenville, KY. Mrs. Henry was an Army veteran serving her country in World War II. She retired from Our Lady of Mercy Hospital in 1985 after 18 years of service as a Nurse's Aide. After retiring from Mercy, she went to work at Hermitage Manor and retired in 1991. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church and was a Kentucky Colonel.
Mrs. Henry was a loving wife and mother; she loved taking care of her family, her cat KC, and her plants. She valued all of her dear friends she made over the years at the Roosevelt House II; she held each of them dear to her heart.
Mrs. Henry was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, George S. Henry Sr., a son-in-law, Donald Gene Hudson, a daughter-in-law, Judy Henry, a sister, Ellen Stanley, and two brothers, Leland Alverson and Eugene Alverson.
She is survived by sons, George Henry, Jr. of Owensboro and Wayman Henry, Sr. of Livermore; daughters, Peggy (Gerald) Wethington of Reynolds Station, Becky (Larry) Wilson of Sebree, and Ruth Hudson of Sacramento; granddaughters, Sandy Boyken and Jennifer (Shane) Kendall of Lexington, and Sherry Henry of Livermore; grandsons, Jeremy (April) Henry of Owensboro, Larry Wilson of Sebree, Barry Wilson of Murray, David Hudson of Sacramento, and Wayman Henry, Jr of Livermore; a step-granddaughter, Michelle (Kevin) Byrd of Glasgow; great-grandchildren, Mavrick Kendall of Lexington, Blake Henry and Briley Henry of Owensboro, and Ashley and Bailey Hudson of Sacramento; step-great grandchildren, Nicole and Amanda Byrd of Glasgow; and a brother, W.K. Alverson, Jr. of Greenville.
Services are 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2010 in the Chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Tim Trout and Rev. Tim Hall officiating followed by burial in Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery in McLean County. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. on Monday and after 11 A.M. on Tuesday.
