Virginia Harpe

Virginia “Sissy” Harpe, 94, of Owensboro, passed away Friday, April 17, 2026, under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky. She was born August 22, 1931, to the late James and Francis Tucker.

Known affectionately as Mamaw, Virginia embraced her role with great pride and affection, creating a loving environment for her family. Her home was often filled with the delightful aroma of fish fries, a cherished tradition that brought family and friends together in joyous celebration. Fishing was not only a pastime but a passion that connected her to the natural world and provided countless opportunities for cherished memories. Virginia’s enthusiasm extended beyond her home; she was an avid fan of the University of Kentucky basketball team, demonstrating unwavering support and following several of the players’ careers in the NBA.

In addition to her parents, Virginia is preceded in death by her loving husband, James Edward Harpe; and brothers, Donnie Tucker, Bobby Tucker and Jr. Tucker.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Steve Harpe (Connie), Garry Harpe (Janie) and David Harpe (Tracey); grandchildren, Tara (Brian), Brandon (Ashley), Salena (Stephanie), Jimmy (Shannon) and Shawn (Malissa); and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Virginia will be 2 PM Tuesday, April 21st, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 12 PM until time of service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky, 3419 Wathen’s Crossing, Owensboro, KY 42303.
