Virginia Mae Thompson Hardy

November 8, 1927 — May 2, 2013

Virginia Mae Thompson Hardy, 85, of Owensboro, passed away on Thursday, May 02, 2013 at the Carmel Home. She was born in Daviess County to the late Joseph Bernard and Anabel Wimsatt Thompson.

Mrs. Hardy was a dedicated homemaker and a 50 year charter member of Immaculate Catholic Church. She was involved with Legion of Mary and a 65 year member and promoter of the Miraculous Medal Association. She enjoyed sewing, handwork, flowers, playing bridge and spending time with family.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Murry Lee Hardy in November 2004; infant child, Murry Leo in 1949; her parents; sisters, Beverly Haire, Mildred Mattingly, Margaret Scherm and Martha Howard; and brothers, Raymond, Eugene and J.B. "Hank" Thompson, Jr.

She is survived by a daughter, Paula Bradley (Leo) of Owensboro; sons, Joe Hardy (Trish) of Houston, TX, Bill Hardy (Becky) of Owensboro and Chris Hardy of Cincinnati; 9 grandchildren, Dr. Nicole Brey (Dr. David), Brandon Hardy (Amy), Dr. Ben Vessels (Dr. Cassey), Ross Hardy (Kim) and Lindsay Hardy; 7 great grandchildren, Madeline and Cooper Jones, Elle, Owen and Jenna Brey, Kayla and Sadie Hardy; 3 step grandchildren, Jason, Jared and Laura Bradley; 3 brothers, Leo Thompson, Paul Thompson (Kay) and Charles Thompson (Anna Ruth), all of Owensboro; a sister, Patsy Clayton (Johnny) of Owensboro; and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.


The funeral mass celebrating Virginia's life will be held at 12:30 on Saturday, May 4 at Immaculate Catholic Church. Fr. Tony Jones will officiate. Burial will be at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 9:00 AM on Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
